Join me at special events this month!

I have two great events coming up in November! Join me at the Manzanita Wellness Center in Berkeley for a Fall & Winter Wellness Open House, Sunday November 6 from 2-5 pm. Sample healing modalities from the Manzanita Collective including moxa, acupuncture, energy reading, massage, DIY medicine making and acu-yoga, and I'll be there offering seasonal facial treatments. My treatments are free, but I'll be collecting doations for the Standing Rock Medic & Healer Council. They are the folks on the ground providing health care to water protectors in Standing Rock in their struggle against the Dakota Access Pipeline. I'll also be donating a portion of the proceeds from all sales that day, and fellow healers are collecting warm winter hats, mitts and coats which will join a package going to the Water Protectors.

The following weekend, I'm co-hosting the second annual Opal Street Center Holiday Faire! I'll be joined by an amazing list of makers, healers and herbalists for a holiday sale. I'll be offering facial acupressure massage demos at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30, and some special products I only offer at in-person events. Enjoy hot herbal bevvies and snax and get all your shopping done. Saturday, November 12 from 4-7 pm, 3947 Opal St. in Oakland.

I hope to see you!

Friday Roundup - October 2

What I've been reading, writing, thinking about and indulging in this week.

Pumpkin Spice Season: Well, it's here, the annual onslaught of 'pumpkin spice' flavoured everything. I think that our excitement over this annual appearance reveals our attunement to seasonal foods. The delight in once a year foods is one we share with our earliest ancestors. Of course, those foods used to come from the earth, not the marketing department.  The deep orange sweetness of pumpkin and other winter squashes, and warming, stimulating spices like ginger, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, are very much in tune with shortening days and cooler nights. I eat my squash in these pumpkin pancakes from Balanced Bites - bake the squash yourself to get it local, and cheaper! (and fine, here's a dairy and sugar free homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe if you must!)

This Week's Herbal History:  Healers and parfumers have been distilling essential oils for centuries. This article gives a fascinating overview.

Fall Sale Still On! My new labels are rolling out, and I still have some stock of my 'classic' labels on SALE. As of Friday morning, I still have sale prices available for Three-in-One Serum, Swimming Dragon Oil, Basic Balm and Ex Libris Balm. Other items are available with brand-new labels!

Have a great weekend!

Friday Roundup - September 24

What I've been reading, writing, thinking about and indulging in this week.

Scrophularia nodosa : used for scrofula - hence the name.

Scrophularia nodosa: used for scrofula - hence the name.

Herbal History: I usually share some neat herbal history on #ThrowBackThursday. This week I lost myself in these gorgeous watercolours of herbs from a 16th century Italian materia medica, digitized by the British Museum. There's an amazing number of historic manuscripts of all kinds, including medicine, that are now available digitally. History herb nerds like me can glut ourselves!

Periscope! I'm officially hooked on Periscope! My friend Denise and I did one together, demonstrating how to use Angelica & Peony oils with moxibustion. Two of my faves to follow are Diane Sanfilippo, who scopes about paleo cooking, health, and entrepreneurial inspiration, and Jennifer Dubowsky, who scopes about acupuncture and Chinese medicine, and beautiful Chicago sunsets! The immediacy of interacting live is what is so fun about it.

Sale!! I'm getting all new labels, did I mention?! In order to clear my shelves for all-new goodies, I'm having a huge sale on current stock while it lasts. 25% off everything in my store until it sells out - you can still purchase new stock of everything at regular prices.  Regenerating and Nourishing Serums, Serenity Face Scrub, and Ginger Menthol Balm are all SOLD OUT so if you want to pick up something, do it now! Might I recommend Three-in-One Serum, or Ex Libris Balm?

Have a great weekend!
