Denise of Cicuto Acupuncture and I are back with our second TCM Talk - a live broadcast on Periscope and loads of info and resources for you (which can all be found on our Pinterest board, bit.ly/periscopepins).
On Thursday, we'll be talking more about making and consolidating healthy changes - something a lot of us are thinking about in January. We'll share practical helpers for healthy change including acupressure, finding support and cultivating a mindset of self-love, and what we can look forward to in the upcoming Year of the Monkey!
See you Thursday!
My friend and colleague Denise of Cicuto Acupuncture and I have been enjoying the new live video social media network Periscope for months now. We scoped through the holidays and created a permanent Pinterest board where we collect links to everything we talk about and recommend in our scopes.
So much of the 'new year' talk is about hating on our bodies, our 'lack of willpower' the 'bad' foods we ate and how we're going to be renewed and purged of our health related sins in January. Yuck! That's not how we roll! We're both physicians of Traditional Chinese Medicine, healthcare practitioners with a truly HOLISTIC perspective - and that's the theme of our first 2016 broadcast: healthy changes without the self-hate.
We'll be scoping on our brand new channel, TCMTalk! @tcm_talk on Periscope and twitter. Hope to see you, and please send in questions or topics you'd like us to cover in future episodes (we scope about 2x a month).
Join Denise and I for the final installment in our holiday periscope live broadcasts! We've had a ton of fun scoping tips, recipes, techniques and resources for the holidays, starting with Hallowe'en. This coming Thursday, we'll bring you three short scopes back to back focused on mental and emotional health during the holiday season.
Whether you're traveling, spending time with family, or just feeling the frantic activity all around you, you can benefit from some simple techniques! Join us for acupressure, herbs, essential oils and recipes that you can add to your 'emotional first aid kit' this winter.
We'll be scoping from Denise's account, @cicutoacu. If you'd like to join in live, we'll be starting at 4 pm PST Thursday, December 17. Go to www.periscope.tv/cicutoacu to watch, or download the Periscope app to watch on your phone. You can also find links to everything we talk about and suggest, including recipes and products, on our Periscope Pinterest board, at www.bit.ly/PeriscopePins. Links to archives of the broadcasts will be there too, so you can watch anytime.
Denise and I are continuing our holiday themed broadcasts withe a new series of mini-scopes, this Thursday, December 3 at 4 pm PST (tune in for the final one in this series on December 17!).
This Thursday, we'll be talking about gifts! We'll share our fave pics for wellness and natural health gifts, how to sidestep the insanity of over-consumption at this time of year, and talk about giving back - introducing you to some of the groups working to bring the healing power of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine to people who need it most.
We'll be scoping from my account, @SFHerbalKitchen. If you'd like to join in live, we'll be starting at 4 pm PST this Thursday, December 3. Go to www.periscope.tv/sfherbalkitchen to watch, or download the Periscope app to watch on your phone. You can also find links to everything we talk about and suggest, including recipes and products, on our Periscope Pinterest board, at www.bit.ly/PeriscopePins. Links to archives of the broadcasts will be there too, so you can watch anytime.
See you Thursday!
What I've been reading, writing, thinking about and indulging in this week
Festivities imminent: Next week is American Thanksgiving, a holiday I've come to enjoy immensely in my adopted country. Denise of Cicuto Acupuncture and I did a series of Periscopes on handling the food, the travel and the stress of the holiday. Among the many tips and recipes we shared on our pinterest board, check out my family's favourite - almond flour carrot cake from Elana's Pantry (we'll be making them into cupcakes)!
Proof is in the Pudding: The most interesting thing I read this week was this article about the 'mid-Victorian' diet and health. What stuck with me most? This quote: "Mid-Victorians lived without modern diagnostics, drugs, surgery or contraception. Despite that, and because of the high nutrient density of their diet, their life spans were as good as ours and their health spans significantly longer." Whoa!! Read the whole article here.
Liquid Libations: There was so much amazing stuff last weekend at the Opal Street Center Holiday Fair! It was such a privilege to be part of the event with an inspiring assortments of healers and creators. No surprise I did a little shopping! One of the things I got is this water kefir kit from Preserved Oakland. Water kefir is a naturally carbonated and probiotic soda, similar to kombucha. I'm thinking about some cranberry flavoured soda for after T-day!
Have a great weekend!
Denise and I are back with a burst of mini scopes, this time all about surviving and thriving through the next holiday here in America - Thanksgiving!
We'll do a series of quickie scopes, covering Thanksgiving Food, Travel Tips and Handling Holiday Stress, with some recipes, DIY and herbal health products you'll want to have on hand, and more.
We'll be scoping from Denise's account, @cicutoacu. If you'd like to join in live, we'll be starting at 4 pm PST this Thursday, November 19.
See you Thursday!
What I'm reading, writing, thinking about and indulging in this week.
Err, so I definitely missed a roundup! I admit, the holiday sales season is kicking my butt! However, I've still been finding time to read and indulge a bit along the way.
Broadcast News: My friend Denise and I had a hoot doing a Hallowe'en 'Perispook' complete with witch hats! We'll do another mini one next Thursday November 12 , as we blend an alchemical aromatherapy oil designed to resonate with the energies of autumn and benefit the lungs. Links to broadcasts and everything we talk about is collected on Pinterest.
Sugar's problem isn't that it 'makes you fat': Health at Every Size advocates, food justice activists and regular health nuts have long known that QUALITY of food is what we need to be concerned about. This new study points at some Western understanding of why.
Essential Oil Adulteration: pure essential oils are expensive - they have to be. This (rather lively) discussion on the facebook page of Dr. Robert Pappas, a biochemist who tests essential oils, reveals what's really in 'bargain' essential oils sold at Walmart. Guess what? It's not what's listed on the bottle.
Have a great weekend!
My colleague Denise Cicuto L.Ac of Cicuto Acupuncture and I have done a few periscopes together now. Periscope is the new social media app for smartphones that lets you share and watch live videos. They're so fun for us that we're going to get together regularly to share health related info and answer questions from our perspective and knowledge as Physicians of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
This Thursday, October 29th at 4 pm, we'll be talking all about Hallowe'en! Herbs, habits and recipes to help you avoid a sugar bender or recover if you don't, why we love pumpkin, and some Hallowe'en themed acupuncture: the famous 'Ghost Points'. Hope to see you there!
How to join us on Periscope: Download the app, sign in with your twitter handle or phone number, and then find and follow me: @sfherbalkitchen and Denise @cicutoacu. You can watch the broadcast for up to 24 hours on Periscope, or visit our Periscope Pinterest board where will share links to things we discuss during the broadcasts, as well as a permanent link to watch them after they're gone from Periscope.
Save the date for our future broadcasts, Thursday, November 19th, 4 pm PST, Thursday December 3, 4 pm PST and Thursday, December 17th at 4 pm PST!
