Plant Profile: Calendula Blossoms

Calendula oil is an infused oil, not an essential oil. I make my own calendula oil for all my products by infusing organic calendula blossoms in organic sunflower oil. This creates a golden yellow oil with a distinctive musky, bitter scent. The scent reflects the compounds in calendula that give it its potent anti-inflammatory, and anti bacterial properties. Calendula has been used in traditional European medicine for millenia to speed wound healing and soothe the skin, and recent allopathic studies have borne out this use. It has also been studied for prevention and treatment of radiation skin damage in people undergoing radiation therapy.
